Dust 514 confirmed Exclusive to PS3

Sony and CCP Games announced yesterday that the long awaited game Dust 514 is planned exclusively for PS3 ONLY. This announcement has been met with a lot of apprehension from the Xbox community and many articles have sprouted up slamming CCP for their decision.

I can only agree with there decision however because the PS3 offers a robust networking setup that can allow for an extremely wide range of connectivity to the PC brother EVE Online. CCP are brilliant and they know what they are doing and what they need. I don't doubt for a second that they made that decision because it benefits DUST and will allow it to be a much better game. Not to mention that the graphical quality will be outstanding since there will not have to be any ports.

PSP Remastered Titles coming to PS3

Sony is planning on bringing remastered PSP titles to the PS3. These titles are going to be fully updated with HD graphics and are going to play just as their counter parts did on the PSP.

Those who loved Monster Hunter and other amazing games on the PSP can rejoice because now you can play those awesome games on the big screen!

Hitman 5: Absolution details revealed!

So its finally upon us. Hitman 5 is on its way. Square Enix revealed today the teaser above and also some minor details.

“Hitman Absolution follows Agent 47, a cold blooded assassin, who takes on his most dangerous contract to date. Betrayed by those he trusted and hunted by the police, he finds himself at the centre of a dark conspiracy and must embark on a personal journey through a corrupt and twisted world, in his search for the truth.”

“For the first time we are taking Agent 47 on a personal journey which allows us to explore other parts of the Hitman® fantasy,” said Tore Blystad, game director, IO Interactive. “This is both a familiar and yet significantly different experience from other Hitman games; something our silent assassins will relish, as will all those new to the Hitman world.”

Thanks to the wonderful people at Gamersmint it can now be confirmed that Hitman 5 is on its way.

With IO's new proprietary engine "Glacier 2." This game will boast a more cinematic feel with a deeper more personal story.

There is a more proper reveal scheduled for tomorrow so I'll throw the details up as I get them.

Expect a full showing at E3 this year!

Bungie's Next Game Leaked!?

I was doing my normal sweep of the interwebs and I've stumbled upon this interesting site...

This site has hinted to the new game Bungie is producing obviously. Now during the Activision/Blizzard conference, the title of said game could have accidentally been slipped:

"Bungie Universe"

Now this also works because if you look at the site referenced above, the latin on the left "per audacia ad astra" directly translates to "by the daring to the stars" (thanks google translate).

Now obviously that can be then taken as daring to venture to the stars or venturing into space. Sooooooo, if you put two and two together. I have a feeling Bungie's next title has to do with space whether it be commanding a ship or simply being in space. Its a step in the right direction.

Lucas Arts Big Reveal?!

After calming down from getting over excited about a new Star Wars Battlefront game, I decided to just blast away at websites and googles queries trying to find as much information as possible. I shot over to Game Informers website and wouldn't ya know, there on the front page is an article about the big reveal from Starwars.com.

As I was reading the article Game Informer has fallen to the speculation of so many like you and I. This time however, this speculation truly has potential. At the end of the article, GI stated that

"Curiously, though, we were actually sent the image by LucasArts, the video game publishing branch of Lucasfilm, making some of us wonder if there might be a game-related announcement coming."

See, I totally overlooked that subtle but very important hint. After reading the article I skimmed my trash box in my email and lo and behold, I received the same image from LucasArts as well. NOT just Lucasfilm.

So people, are we to expect Star Wars: Battlefront 3? The future is looking just a little bit brighter. I will keep everyone posted with up to the minute news as I find it.

Star Wars: Battlefront 3?

I recently came across this video and I gotta say, It's rather convincing. I'm praying that this game comes out soon.

Seeing how Pandemic was bought and then swiftly shutdown. I don't know the fate of this game. But, one can only wish right?

What are your thoughts?

I did some digging and that was an actual game in the making by the developer Free Radical. It however was passed on and sadly, the tech that allowed you to fly into space and back onto the planet stayed with free radical.

Hopefully something comes of this at this years E3 or even better is announced tomorrow at 6AM.

To top all that off, there is also some chatter coming from a venue of different devs. Spark Unlimited has a "AAA" title in the works and could be moving towards BF3 because of the recent hire of Longo.

Crytek UK has something "the people will be happy about" that is planned to be shown at E3 this year. Crytek UK used to be Free Radical before they were bought.

I guess time will tell. All this information has been building up so lets see if Lucas Arts and a very ambitious dev team can rise to the challenge

E3 Around the Corner

Hey all,

As you know E3 is swiftly approaching us, with ground breaking news coming from Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft, this is sure to be one of the best E3's to date. As always, I will be covering every ounce of news I pick up and it will be delivered to you. So make sure you check back frequently for all your up to date gaming news!

Now as far as news is concerned, Nintendo is expected to announce their new next gen console at this show. There is a ton of speculation as to what it could be. Michael Pachter from Wedbush Morgan Securities, called the ball on this way back and now Nintendo has followed his prediction.

So what do you all think its gonna be? A larger DS that utilizes 2 screens (your tv and one on the controller), or perhaps a powerful performance based console to compete with Sony and Microsoft?

Sony E3 Rumors

It seems in the past couple of days that rumors have been flying around the internet. But the latest and greatest rumors are those pertaining to NGP and Sony's lineup for titles for the upcoming convention.

These rumors were picked up on a french forum, heres the link: Gamekult

Basically to sum all that up, here are the rumors to date:

- Sony will be announcing the actual name for NGP
- There will be 7 first party titles launching with NGP
- Hideo Kojima's next project is expected to be Peace Walker for NGP
- The Wipeout engine has been ported over to NGP and can be expected within the 1st quarter of the launch
- There is a possibility of another Metal Gear Solid game soon
- There 37 titles underway and most will not be revealed till later
- Sony will reveal a few titles that are not due out till December 2012
- Santa Monica Studios is on board for another game
- There will be a sequel to Warhawk at E3
- Twisted Metal, Resistance 3, and Uncharted 3 will be playable at the convention
- Polyphony Digital is on board for another game
- A Rockstar game could be released before Agent
- A third part title is in a big battle with Sony. Probably Bungie. This could lead to a new title

Well there ya go folks. Those are the rumors. Salivate over them, dismiss them, or do whatever you please with them.

The Future of EVE Online

I just got the new EVE Online newsletter today and one of the main stories on it was a video that showed the combined vision of both EVE Online and Dust 514. What the video shows is pure video game bliss.

If CCP Games can solidify a game that ties the consoles and the computers in and can deliver a universe that is experienced by all and enjoyed by all then we are in for a treat.

That demo video made me so excited! I have been a long time EVE player and can honestly say that if that is the future of EVE, sign me up for life!

Crytek Embarassing IGN? I think not.

Ok so get this, IGN called Crytek out on the very crappy demo that was distributed over PSN. I've seen it, played it, and sorry Crytek, but graphically, there is much to be desired.

I just read the article from Console Press and they go on to say that Crytek embarrassed IGN. But I feel that Crytek should be embarrassed for releasing such a shoddy demo.

IGN stated:

“The performance of the PS3 version is pretty underwhelming. The framerate is frequently low and choppy. There are jagged lines everywhere, and shadows are especially messy. There’s a muddiness to the graphics that’s hard to stomach in the wake of the PS3′s other flagship showpieces, and worse, the variable framerate really hurts controller response.”

I would have to be in complete agreement with that statement. I wasn't truly impressed with the demo at all. It definitely needed work.

The demo has been pulled from the marketplace and hopefully there will be an updated demo that will address the current issues.

To Be Or Not To Be A "+" Member

I never really put much thought into Playstation Plus until now. I mean, I have subscribed and used it's features, but to me it doesn't really hold that much value. I would be willing to pay if there was cross/party chat along with a more comprehensive buddy system, allowing a player to ignore specific people and block them. The reason I bring this up is because recently, a friend of mine on PSN, SonsOfMonroe, sent me a message talking about the lack of Cross chat, Cloud, and why we haven't seen those and other features.

He went on to state:

"If Sony gave us Cloud storage in April, then gave us Cross Chat in June for E3, That'd cause massive revenue for Sony Overnight."

Honestly, I would have to agree with that statement. It would be amazing to have cross chat and party chat for members on PSN, regardless of whether you had to pay. It would also be nice to have Cloud storage, but if that were the case, seeing how Sony has captured the universal vibe, I would expect Mobile Me to be right next to cloud for those non PC users like myself. But, in the same breath, one of the most attractive features the Playstation 3 has under its belt is the ability to play online for free. If only plus users were to have cross chat, it would cause a major outcry for support for the rest of the people not paying. Its a huge selling point that cannot be overlooked.

SonsOfMonroe then went on to say that:

"Now that Plus is here watch the new exclusive features start coming slowly. People don't want to pay for good stuff, they think members will just get to try new features first, then every one will get it later. Exclusive features is a reason to buy Playstation Plus."

Again, I agree that it's worth paying for exclusive features, but until Sony can bring everything to the table like Cross chat and the use of Cloud Storage and Mobile Me, then it still does not hold enough value for me, and again I'm still on the fence when it comes to paying for cross chat. If Sony can boast such an amazing online experience now, and offer it all for free, I'm sure cross chat can and should stay as a free feature.

Details

- ‘Magnetism’ is used to prevent friendly fire in combat, by slightly ‘pulling’ your attacks towards enemies
- Some, apparently unique, enchanted weapons will have “concealed” effects. You won’t know what those are until you try the weapon.
- You cannot block if you have a sword in one hand, and a spell in another. Only players wielding two-handed blades or sword and shield can use block.
- The Spell Shield effect returns.
- Taverns will play a large role in the game. You will be able to overhear people’s conversations, start quests, acquire information, and much more.
- They mention breaking and entering to find out more about people – “Because of the open world set up you can even progress by snooping around – following people, looking out for strange behaviour and even some light breaking and entering”.
- Quest givers can give you more or less information about their quest depending on their disposition towards you.
- Several new spell effects, including “Ice Trap” (only triggered when an enemy walks over it), “Circle of Protection” (push the enemies in your vicinity away), “Fury” (make enemies fight each other), and so on.
- One of the finishing moves involves “plunging your sword into your enemy’s chest”, coupled with gurgling death noises.
- The ‘free-form’ activities you can perform include cooking, woodcutting, mining and metalwork.
- A Dragon Shout that slows down time (a la Bullet Time) is mentioned.
- Some Dragon Shouts are found in dungeons.
- There’s a city called Riverwood. It is described as ‘A smattering of timber buildings, including a sawmill’.
- Radiant Story is in part inspired by the random encounters in Fallout 3.
- The game apparently looks amazing in motion, with great environment effects such as the wind making the water swirl and making waves.
- It is possible to raise all skills to 100 but not possible to get all perks.
- Dragon encounters aren’t scripted. If one comes across a town in its travels, it might decide to attack it without warning. This may or may not involve setting it ablaze.
- Magazine talks about the improvement of NPC’s and Radiant AI.
- Every big settlement is unique. The city of Markarth Side, for example, is set into “dramatic stone cliffs, with buildings teetering on the end of sheer drops.”
- Haarfingar is said to be home to the largest trading port in Skyrim.
- The game apparently includes ‘meteorogical effects’: clouds gathering around mountaintops, etcetera.
- The glorious return of the Dwemer ruins is once again confirmed.
- One of the cities in Skyrim will apparently be heavily inspired by the Dunmer (Dark Elves), and may even be a full-fledged Dunmer settlement.
- They’re trying to go back to the “eccentricity” of Vvardenfell. Every Nord faction will have their own customs, colors, and so on.
- The economy of the game is better developed than in Oblivion. If you destroy a city’s means of income (for instance, their crops) they’ll need to buy crops from another nearby city, and prices in the city will go up.
- Archers can ‘hold their breath’ while aiming. This consumes stamina, but gives the archer a better chance of hitting the enemy.
- A wounded dragon has a chance of crashing into the ground.
- You can cut dialogue short by walking away from the NPC.
- Dragon Shouts are assigned to the R3-button on the PS3 gamepad.
- Not every NPC will have a complete set of dialogue like in Oblivion. It’ll be more like in Fallout 3, where only the ‘important’ NPC’s have anything substantial to say.

- Quests can influence each other. Quest A may be changed for you because you completed Quest B beforehand.
- Quest givers now give more detailed instructions, in a style that’s apparently akin to Morrowind. They might even escort you to the road, to show you where to go.
- The game has 120 unique dungeons, worked on by 8 designers.

Potential spoilers

- One dungeon is called ‘Bleak Falls Barrow’, and it is inhabited by the Draugr (the undead Nord warriors we first met in Bloodmoon). As you proceed through the dungeon, you’ll eventually encounter a ‘ghostly dragon priest’, and eventually the dungeon boss, a giant ‘Frostbite Spider’. It is said the dungeon is ‘terryfing’.
- The quest to Bleak Falls Barrow is given to you by a shopkeeper called Lucan, whose priceless Draconic family heirloom (a golden claw) was stolen recently.
- The death of the King of Skyrim has sparked a civil war in the country.

New Military Game On The Horizon?

I was browsing about the web and came across these two videos on youtube earlier this morning. These videos show an outstanding tech demo brought to you by the great people at RealTime Immerssive Inc.

Using Cry Engine 3 these people have developed some of the best looking military graphics I have ever seen. Lets hope that some developer takes advantage of this and makes a stellar Military Simulation game on par with ARMA 2 but for the consoles!!!

Speculation about The Elders Scroll V: Skyrim has been running rampant since the teaser trailer as shown at the Spike VGAs and the teaser site went live soon after. We know one thing for certain though, the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 game from Bethesda Softworks won't be built on the same game engine as any previous games.

While there be dragons in the game, Skyrim will also sport a brand new shiny engine according to the Bethblog twitter. "Seeing lots of speculation about #tesv game engine. It's brand new... and it's spectacular!," it said.

Good news as the game engines from Oblivion, Fallout 3and Fallout: New Vegas are beginning to show their age.

Update: For those wondering if this is a licensed engine or an internal engine, Bethesda confirmed on their forumsthat this is a new internally developed engine.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is due out on November 11, 2011.

Elder Scrolls V Is Underway!

It looks as though Bethesda are indeed hard at work on the next Elder Scrolls game, with reports saying that it will be a direct sequel to Oblivion, and that voice recording for the game is already underway.
Eurogamer Denmark spilled the beans on the sequel after speaking to someone involved on the game’s development. Eurogamer have translated the Danish news report, and it reads like this:

“This source not only confirmed that the game is in current production, but also spoke briefly about the content – with fantasy-sounding phrases like Dragon Lord, something with The Blades – and that voice acting for the characters in the game is currently happening in the weeks to follow.

The same source confirmed, with official game documents in hand, that this will be the chronological sequel to what happened in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which is the latest game in the now 16-years-old Elder Scrolls saga and by itself one of the better RPGs for PC and consoles.”

Oblivion was released all the way back in 2006, and there has since been little word of a sequel, it might finally be time to get excited.

Update: if the information is accurate, the term ‘chronological sequel’ may simply mean that the game is set later than Oblivion. So far each of the four Elder Scrolls games have been set later than the last, but none have been direct sequels in the ordinary sense: very few characters appear in more than one game, the hero is always a new character, and the plots don’t connect. That may still be true of The Elder Scrolls V.

On Friday the 17th, I was given the opportunity to Preview "Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 11." Fanali opened up the traveling trailer thats part of their "Hunt Across America Tour." Now lets get something straight, this trailer was not just some cramped place to preview a game. It was loaded with scenery and it made you feel like you were actually in a hunting environment; dangerous animals included!

So armed with my trusty gun and curiousity, I watched as Fanali showed me some parts of the campaign. These segments were unlike any other Cabela's game I have played or seen. They were dramatic, cinematic, and overall gave a hunting game a true story to follow. The first one had your main character in a cave with two of your buddies. Essentially, you were following tracks that led you to this cave. Immediately erie music kicked in and the anticipation built up for what was to come. The flashlights broke, and this mysterious animal, that you will be spending your time in the campaign tracking down, assaults you.

He then jumped to another section of the game in the Alaskan wilderness that is early on. It involves you proving your manhood by shooting at targets and orienting yourself with the controls. As the story progressed you ended up hunting a group of caribou that led to the imminent danger of a pack of wolves tracking you. As you follow this path, you can hear the wind whipping and wolves howling. You end up getting attacked by a wolf and falling into this old graveyard, where you must defend yourself from the vicious pack.

During this sneak peek at the main story, there were a few things that really stood out. The controller you use for the game has a scope on it, which when used, gives you hunter vision and allows you to see animal tracks and blood trails in the game that you wouldn't otherwise be able to see. Also, the cinematic quality of this game stood out. Its not to often you get a gripping hunting game that has animals trying to rip off your arms. Overall, the story looks promising and I think that once the final game is released it will provide people who have an interest in hunting games with an enjoyable story line.

The Other Game Modes

I got to play both the shooting gallery mode and also a type of survival mode. These modes offered over 32 levels for you and your friends to hunt on and score points. You were given a rifle and a shotgun. The shotgun was strictly for birds, while the rifle was for everything else. It worked on a points system, where you scored for killing animals, getting head shots, not shooting females animals and collecting bonuses that were attached to animals like the ability to not have to reload and a score multiplier. This mode was extremely fun and made me feel like I was at a live shooting gallery. The controls for the most part were tight. There were some hiccups where the reticule would ocaisionally jump off screen, but I feel that was due to the lack of calibration. But I was told that the release copy would allow for the player to calibrate the gun for much more precision on screen.

The survival mode basically pitted you against your friend in seeing who could last the longest with deadly animals coming at you. The points system was generally the same and this mode offered another set of challenges to complete alone or with a friend.

These two modes, along with the story, look to provide for a good amount play time depending upon your skill with the gun and if you decide to play with a friend.

The Controller

This piece of hardware, made by the same people who brought you the guitar hero controllers was very solid. The gun had an adjustable stock, with the controls tightly mapped. Nothing felt awkward when using the controls, even the reloading mechanism was solid and very responsive.(Just imagine all those people who wanna do one handed reloads, you can, its definitely effective!). The only problem like I said was the reticule disappearing from time to time. But this was most likely the calibration, or my shoddy aiming.

With the released scheduled for October 26th of this year. This hunting game made by Activision is looking promising. With an awesome story, and a ton a single and multiplayer challenges in the shooting gallery this has the potential to put hunting games back in your crosshairs.

E3 Is Rounding The Corner

Hey all,

Next week starting on the 15th and lasting until the 17th, is the biggest show in the video game industry. Thats right, E3 is yet again rounding the corner and there is plenty to get excited about. Be sure to tune in to the live coverage of E3 each night (15-17) at 10pm with my guest host, Josh Darr.

With the Ps3 releasing Move and all its big exclusives and debuts such as Killzone 3 and Littlebigplanet 2 there is a rough competition. It now seems that the power struggle between the two giants is tipping in Sony's favor while the Wii is completely off the map.

Germany's Push For Violent Video Games Ban Collapses.

Last summer, as Germany grappled with a shooting spree linked to video games, state officials demanded the German government enact a comprehensive ban on violent games. A year later the government has refused, choosing to implement ratings education measures instead.

Apparently, a petition that gathered more than 70,000 signatures helped influence the federal government's decision. The signatures were enough to get the matter in front of Germany's Committee on Petitions, and when allowed to address the body, the petitioner asked for more education on the PEGI rating system, which covers games distributed in that country.

Herman Kues, a Parliament State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for Home Affairs, subsequently announced that no changes to Germany's current code were coming, and that the country would instead follow the public education recommendation.

A senior executive for Electronic Arts in Germany hailed the decision, telling GamesIndustry.biz that it was "a very welcome step as we encourage policy makers to better understand the reality of today's video game market and give games the same respect as books, films or music."

Over the past few weeks I have been putting together a new site for SVR. Its still not done yet, but the plans are underway and this site is going to have a lot more content and everyone will be able to join up and partake in community events!!

Dust 514 at a glance.

Ok so you have tried the demo of Eve Online, maybe some of you even have a subscription. That game is extremely large and CCP are making improvements everyday. Currently around 300,000 players, its no WOW but it has found a niche and that niche is growing

So your probably wondering what exactly 514 is. Well, in a nutshell, Dust 514 is an FPS MMO that impacts Eve Online directly. and vice versa. CCP intends on a complete assimilation of both games into one as 514 grows and plans on truly make the EVE universe an ever expanding place for all types of gamers to enjoy.

Recently a new trailer was posted to youtube for the game and there is also cam footage of the game. You can check all that out down below.

But so far the game is looking to be a gorgeous IP. With the rumored Unreal Engine 3 powering it (not confirmed at this time) its going to not only be a very fun game, but look beautiful at the same time.

As far as gameplay goes, you can see that they already have an alpha build if not beta that looks polished and plays well for its current position in development. In the cam videos they talk about having a quick play feature and show the gorgeous and very detailed lobby.

Instead of a lobby with players listed and boring menus to look at, you actually are stationed on your corp's war barge and can walk around looking at the the current area of operations, and who is on each team. All this data and more are displayed on holo screens and behind that is a gorgeous view of the current planet your about to invade. Taking a walk down a hall you can then see the staging area for all vehicles that will be used for the invasion. You can also walk into your own trophy room which connects directly to unlocking things and leveling up

There will not techincally by levels like in EVE but you will be able to unlock more weapons and gear by attaining trophies and helping your corp take planets.

Each race that is in EVE Online will also be featured in Dust 514. There will also be race specific with both the weaknesses and strengths that are with each class.

This game is looking to be an amazing FPS MMO that is going to grace both PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles. With a starting player cap of 64 in each match and a command structure that caters to even RTS players(When you are acting field commander) be sure to add this to your list of must buys. Though its not slated for a solid release date, look for it in the very near future.

Yakuza 3 Coming to the U.S. Exclusively On PS3

After countless indications that a Western release was unlikely, Sega has announced that Yakuza 3 is making the trip to U.S. and European PlayStation 3 consoles early next year.

Sega has been teasing us. Ryū ga Gotoku 3, the third game in Sega's Yakuza series, has sold half a million copies in Japan since its release in February of last year. Despite strong sales and the clamoring of the franchises' fanbase, the developer has remind quiet about a Western release - until now. In a post on the European PlayStation Blog, Sega announces the impending U.S., European, and Australian release, with words from SOE's European Marketing Director, Gary Knight.

"Yakuza 3 was one of the most requested titles for localisation by our European SEGA community, so we are delighted to be able to fulfil their wishes with this announcement. As well as delving even further into the rich narrative of the Yakuza universe, the development team have pushed the PlayStation 3 hardware to the limits to produce a beautiful and startlingly realistic depiction of the Japanese underworld."

The localization of the game will feature full Japanese voice acting with English subtitles, as it should be. Best of all, the PlayStation 3 exclusive is due out in March. That's only three months or so of waiting. Perhaps Sega was wise to tease us until now.

Lacrosse On The Xbox 360!

Let's be real. It would take a nuclear war for lacrosse, even though it's literally more American than football or baseball, to displace either game on TV. It would take even more to put it in a retail video game box.

"A lot of people have been demanding this in a video game for a very long time," said Carlo Sunseri, 25, a former midfielder for Robert Morris University. "But the market simply isn't that big yet. It's just not possible to do a full blown multimillion dollar game for lacrosse."

But that didn't mean Sunseri couldn't publish a full-blown lacrosse video game for about a multimillion dollars less. Inside Lacrosse College Lacrosse 2010 - hey, the game has a title sponsor, is that bigtime enough for you? - hit the Xbox Live Indie Games channel two weeks ago, a rarity even among that service's eclectic title selection. The game offers a full-featured sports simulation, with a season mode, roster customization and live human announcer, largely what you'd expect in Madden or NBA 2K10 if, you know, either were about lacrosse.

Through the years, a lacrosse video game has often been a why-don't-they-do-that topic in publications or message boards devoted to the sport, Sunseri said. "If you look on the Internet there's always petitions, forums full of kids screaming for a lacrosse video game," he said. Microsoft's rollout of the Indie Games channel last year seemed to be the best shot for such a thing to happen. Sunseri went to work, writing up a business plan built on game sales as well as in-game advertising. It was enough to get a loan, and enough to get him to step down from his coaching gig at his Pittsburgh-area alma mater, forming Crosse Studios to handle the project

Sunseri needed a developer, of course. For that, he turned to Fritz Ackerley, a 14-year veteran of the games business whose Triple B Studios had recently published the Indie Channel hit Fitba, a soccer simulation. Sunseri figured Fitba's engine could be the foundation for a lacrosse game and he was right, with just one catch: Ackerly knew absolutely nothing about lacrosse.

But, "I've done Formula 1 games and I don't know what like to drive F1 car," Ackerley said. "I've worked on World War II shooters; I don't know what it's like to shoot someone in World War II. So you just have to get the feel for what the sport is about, and Carlo would fill me in on things I had not seen."

Sunseri sent Ackerley video of old lacrosse matches to demonstrate the game's flow, positioning, and concepts such as "forming the L," the game's fast-break offense formation. Passing was built on Fitba's mechanics, as it was a game touted for allowing player motion in one line with passes going along another, something critically important to lacrosse realism.

Shooting was assigned to the right analog stick to allow for more complex shot placement, a demand Sunseri got from potential gamers thanks to buying up ads on Facebook that pointed lacrosse fans to surveys. The surveys alone point to the sport's strong following; Sunseri boasted of clickthroughs topping 80 percent. A Facebook page for the game presently has more than 50,000 fans.

As Ackerley worked on the game, Sunseri pursued sponsorships for it, securing the title endorsement of Inside Lacrosse, the leading publication covering the sport, and other deals from sporting goods makers and sellers.

Players were hand-rendered by animator Joseph Daniels and brought into the game. Sunseri couldn't get collegiate or professional licensing, and had to make the game's 40 teams from scratch without emulating any existing club. His girlfriend consulted on much of the style and color choices.

Originally Sunseri figured on offering the game for $10, with college and professional indoor-rules variations, but he and Ackerley decided late in the development cycle to limit this version to a collegiate outdoor format, name it College Lacrosse 2010, and halve the price to $5. When it released in November, Sunseri held his breath. But Inside Lacrosse College Lacrosse 2010 clocked 40,000 trial downloads in its first two weeks, and today is in the top 5 among highest-rated and downloaded indie games.

It might be too early to declare financial success - Sunseri demurred when asked for development costs or sales figures - but when it comes to evangelizing for the game he loves, College Lacrosse 2010 is a hit.

"I think the game has the potential to push lacrosse more into the mainstream," Sunseri said. "You look at the youth numbers, they're exploding. It's kind of at a tipping point now, and I hope through video games we can push it over the top, and start getting everyone to notice the game of lacrosse."

Sunseri said work's already begun on a successor version - the professional-rules version, which is played indoor and has different scoring options, is due for January he said. After that he hopes to have a college lacrosse 2011 sequel out around the time of the NCAA lacrosse finals, contested in late May.

"It's amazing, the opportunity Microsoft's built for indie developers here," Sunseri said. ‘I remember back when they announced it. I was still in college, and they said, ‘We're going to be doing the YouTube of video games.

"I said back then it would be perfect for doing a lacrosse video game, finally," he said, "and it ended up working out."

Xbox Live will be $100 per year, Pachter believes

Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter expects Microsoft to raise the price of Xbox Live Gold membership from the current $50 to $100 per year in the next few years.

“You can’t hook a guy into Xbox Live Gold if he’s playing on a PC,” Pachter said in a GTTV discussion talking about how Microsoft has seemingly given up on the PC gamer market. “… that’s the other problem — you really want to hook every gamer who has a 360, you want them to buy all their games on 360, play everything multiplayer, pay you 50 bucks a year so that, in a couple years, it’s a 100 bucks a year.”

“And that’s going up, we all know that … it’s a profit deal,” he concluded.

Updates on the happenings

Currently, college has taken over my life. Also, there are big network issues when trying to host the show.

So keep checking back regularly for updates. There will be a show, there will be music but for right now, its under maintenance until further notice
