Bioware: Mass Effect Might be More Than A Trilogy

They haven't even got the second one out the door yet, but already BioWare are talking about what the future may hold for Mass Effect. Talking to us in an exclusive interview, BioWare VP Greg Zeschuk has revealed that Mass Effect may become more than just a trilogy "if everything goes well". When asked whether BioWare would play a key role in EA's plan to roll out two to three new IPs a year, Zeschuk replied: "We have one of them Dragon Age this year, but our job is to both create new property and take advantage of existing ones."

"We've said Mass Effect is supposed to be a trilogy," continued Zeshuck, "so you're going to see at least a third Mass Effect, and even more if everything goes well."
Even more Mass Effect? That can only be a good thing, right?
Encouragingly, BioWare obviously has a terrific amount of faith in their games, with Zeschuk going on to say that the company will "always be building more and more breadth into these properties."

As long as that doesn't lead to sub-par spin-offs, Greg, we're with you all the way.

Exciting Unannounced Project From Microsoft At Comic Con

Comic-Con's not typically an event one attends expecting to hear about the latest game announcements, but Microsoft is bringing with it something as yet unannounced, according to an invite from the Xbox 360 maker.

Microsoft will be showcasing the already announced Halo 3: ODST, Alan Wake, The Beatles: Rock Band, Left 4 Dead 2 and Xbox Live Arcade's South Park and Shadow Complex during the Con. But it's also giving us a chance to see a "new, exciting unannounced project from one of our top franchises." Interesting...

Microsoft will hold a media reception on the evening of Thursday, July 23rd which could mean an announcement will happen that night. Granted, since the company's invite states that those of us covering Comic-Con will be "among the first" to see that unannounced project, it could very well be announced ahead of time.

Also, to prevent hype poisoning, note that "new project" does not necessarily mean "new video game." We could be getting our first look at new downloadable content or something else that should induce caution.

In the meantime, any educated guesses about that mystery project?

Rockstar New England Working On Two New Titles

Rockstar New England, formerly Mad Doc Studios and developers of Bully: Scholarship Edition and the Empire Earth franchise, have been having one of those years. While last month’s layoffs hit hard, rendering “at least 10 percent of the studio” redundant, they came after news that the company was working on an unannounced title. However, this is not the case.

The developer has not one but two unannounced games in the pipeline. Any game from a studio marked “Rockstar” is bound to attract attention, right? Our sources went a step further, stating the second unannounced game to be exclusive to the Xbox 360. Created as a contrast to The Agent, coming exclusively to the Playstation 3? Maybe. Another AAA title for Rockstar to reap the greens with? As with The Agent, it won’t be long before all is unveiled in the coming months.

New Tech being used for Halo: Reach

Halo Reach is being propagated as the next game to use technology that packs a wallop and this is what is being discussed as being put into the new engine that is being developed for the game. These features were spoken extensively at this years' GDC conference with reference to DX11 tech.

Tessellators with close to 30K characters to achieve cinematic quality.

The Hull Shader to patch control points in order to modify the behavioral pattern of the tessellator.

Domain shader to optimize performance of the output of the GPU in order to mitigate bandwith use.

These features allow real-time displa of real-time images which are otherwise not achieved making creation of objects in the world easier for programmers whilst saving up on a limited memory module. Silhouette elaboration and terrain rendering whose objects offer a healthy degree of curvature.

All this allows for a visually heavy game in the Halo series. More as time elapses.
